Inflammation of the Supporting Tissues… A Special talk with Dr Ahmad Jbara

Periodontitis is a serious infection of the gums. It’s caused by bacteria that have been permitted to accumulate on your teeth and gums. As periodontitis progresses, your bones and teeth can be damaged. However, if periodontitis is treated early and adequate oral hygiene is maintained, the damage can be stopped.

In this context, Dr Ahmad Jbara asserted that the occurrence of periodontitis appears after gingivitis is left untreated, as a result of the accumulation of plaque bacteria on and below the gum line, which can lead to irreversible damage to the bones and tissues that support the teeth.

According to Dr Jbara, if left to progress, the supporting structures of your teeth, including the bones of your jaw, can be destroyed. Your teeth loosen and might fall out or require extraction.

The doctor advised never to ignore periodontitis, and to follow up with your dentist immediately when any signs of the disease appear such as bleeding when you brush your teeth or floss, bad breath, foul taste in your mouth, red or swollen gums, pain when chewing and tooth loss.

The person can also reduce the hazard of gum disease, where Dr Ahmad pointed out the necessity to follow good dental hygiene habits such as flossing teeth twice a day or using a special brush, in addition to periodic dental examinations.
