As he prepares to welcome his first baby, a father-to-be planned two vacations. After his wife asked to join one of them, he declined, leaving her “hurt.”
The “hurt” woman, who is currently pregnant with the couple’s first child, shared her story in a post on Mums net while asking users one of the platform’s most popular questions, “Am I being unreasonable?” (“AIBU,” for short).
As the couple prepares to welcome their baby — due in late December — the father-to-be is preparing to go on two trips to mark his 30th birthday in 2026. First up is a ski trip in February, then a summer trip. Since the “baby will be tiny” in February and she “actually can’t stand skiing,” the latter of which is the trip that left her “hurt,” the woman said.
In July 2025, the expectant dad and his college friends are planning to “spend some days at a sports campus type place” swimming, playing tennis, boating, going to a waterpark and , according to the post.

For this trip, she said, there are eight men going, and two of their partners are coming along. One of them “makes sense,” the mom-to-be wrote, because she is “very much part of” their school group. The other partner, meanwhile, is “relatively new.”
The expectant mom asked her husband if she could join the group for a day or two, as their child will be around 7 months old at the time of the trip. Plus, she said, “my parents have already offered to have him.”
He declined, and when she asked why, he told her, “It will be quite a sporty and competitive trip, the other girls are really sporty, but you wouldn’t enjoy all the sports and will probably complain it’s boring the whole time.”

“Now I’m hardly Serena Williams but I don’t think I’m awful at sports, and while I do think the water park and maybe go karting which is also on their list isn’t up my street, I’d just come for one of the sports days and the boat day,” she wrote before asking, “AIBU to be hurt by his reasons?”

A poll of nearly 900 Mumsnet users concluded that she is not being unreasonable, with about 80% of voters taking her side. Several users, however, questioned why she or her husband would plan trips at all given the fact that they are about to welcome a newborn.
“I’m astonished he’s taking two holidays without you when you have a newborn,” one person wrote, while another echoed, “Three holidays booked between both of you before baby is even 1 year old?”
The expectant mom pushed back, however. In a later reply, she wrote, “Do people really never go on separate holidays once they have children?”
“We aren’t the first in our circle to have kids, and many of them still go on (separate) holidays. I really don’t think that’s an issue?” she continued, adding that “maybe it’s just our circle.”
In another reply, she provided context, writing, “I went away last year for my 30th with friends, so it felt fair that he also got to do the same. It’s not like a newborn is going to know whether he is there or not, and my parents will come and stay with me.”
“I don’t mind him going,” she clarified. “I’m just hurt by the reasons I’m not invited.”
