Mindy Kaling has revealed that her dear friend Reese Witherspoon tried to set her up on a date – but she politely declined the offer.

The Office actress, 46, opened up about her dating life in a rare move during a recent appearance on the Today show.

Speaking to co-host Savannah Guthrie last week, Mindy admitted that she’s happily single and focused on raising her three children.

‘Pretty recently, Reese Witherspoon wanted to set me up with somebody and I didn’t even look to see who it was,’ she said.

‘I didn’t laugh in her face because I love her and I love that she was thinking of me in that way, but I just thought, “It’s not time.”‘

Kaling added that the idea of ‘doing her hair and putting on makeup and getting out there’ while raising three young kids seemed impossible to her.

‘I laughed at the idea of doing my hair and putting on makeup and getting out there,’ she continued.

‘I have three kids under the age of seven, so for me to want to leave them, especially when I travel for work a lot ( is) just, you know…’

While she’s currently not interesting in dating, Kaling did stress that she does still ‘love romance’ and is not ‘anti-men.’

Clarifying her position, she said: ‘When I was younger, I was yearning for professional success and personal success and both weighed on me equally.

‘Now that I have professional success, it’s hard to muster up the energy. Both were sort of quenched when one was fulfilled.

‘When I was younger, I was like, “If I don’t have a date on Saturday night, I’m a loser. I failed.”

‘And now, as you get older and smarter, you’re like, “Well, I don’t care about that. And no one cares if I do either.”‘

Mindy added that she is ‘happy with her three kids and with her messed up way of thinking about relationships.’

‘It’s fine for me being single,’ she said.

Kaling previously dated her Office co-star BJ Novak while they were filming the popular sitcom.

They first met in 2004, but called time on their romance just three years later in 2007.

Despite the split, they have maintained a long-lasting friendship, with some fans speculating he could even be the father of her kids.

Actress and showrunner Kaling is mom to Katherine, seven, Spencer, four, and Anne, one, but has kept the identity of the father private.

Novak is the godfather to her two eldest children and has been pictured spending time with Kaling and her little ones.

They have appeared at multiple public events together since their split, igniting speculation that their relationship might be more than just amicable.

At the 2022 Emmy Awards, the pair poked fun at their ‘insanely complicated relationship’ while co-presenting the award for writing for a limited or anthology series or movie.

In addition, when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Kaling made headlines by describing Novak as an ‘important and integral’ part of her family.
