NEED TO KNOW
- Kendra Scott and Zac Brown are celebrating their first Thanksgiving holiday together after getting engaged in July
- Scott says Zac and her son are in charge of the food, since they’re both amazing cooks
- She says their blended families, including the eight children they have between them, will be at the joyful celebration
It may be Halloween, but jewelry designer Kendra Scott already has Thanksgiving on her mind.
“Zac is an incredible cook,” Scott, 51, says of her musician fiancé, country singer Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band.
“He’s next level. He’s had a cookbook out. And then my son (Cade, 24), he’s also a chef. He’s been working in restaurants since he was 18. So the two of them take care of the food, and I just take orders, like a sous chef. I’ll cut vegetables, or whatever they tell me to do.”
Scott says this year’s feast will be one of new traditions: All eight of their kids are joining in the fun at one massive celebration in Scott’s barn at her ranch near Austin.
“We’re going to have about 25 people between friends, and then Zac and I have eight kids between us. We’re like the Brady Bunch — four girls, and four boys.” (Scott is also mom to sons Beck, 21, and Grey, 12, while Brown has daughters Justice, 18, Lucy, 17, Georgia, 15, and Joni, 14, and son Alexander, 11.)

Between now and the upcoming holiday, Scott says she’s mostly traveling and prepping for the busy season.
‘We opened 25 stores this year,” she says. “So I’m busy visiting stores and trying to see as many of the Kendra Scott family members out there in our retail stores. The holiday times are like our Super Bowl.”

For Scott, it’s all about getting into the brick and mortar jewelry shops, and interacting with the customers. “We’ve got a pop-up happening in Nashville for our new brand Yellow Rose, which is our western brand, and from there I’ll just be meeting our customers and trying to spread joy wherever we can.”
When she’s not hard at the work on the stores, the self-made mogul, who began making jewelry in a spare room with $500 before turning it into a billion-dollar business, can be found giving back in myriad ways through her Kendra Scott Foundation.
On Oct. 27, she joined forces with singer Ciara to donate a “Yellow Library” to PS 161 Pedro Albizu in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, N.Y. The mini libraries, part of Scott’s Foundation, are yellow bookcases loaded with stories about kids from all backgrounds to encourage childhood literacy in all kids.

“I just saw this was a need,” Scott, 51, says of the Yellow Libraries.
“We also have so many children in Texas that are Spanish speaking, and they didn’t have books in their libraries that they could relate to, or that their parents could read to them. So we thought, let’s give Title One schools a program where they can actually have access to these types of books, where they could see themselves reflected in the stories and might think, ‘OK, I could be him or I could be her.'”
