An unexpected $29 item from Mitre 10 has been flying off shelves after than 1,000 units were sold in less than one month.
The Merry Lane Enchanted Light Wand, which can wirelessly turn your Christmas tree lights on and off with every wave, has sold out completely, with a restock already on its way to keep up with the overwhelming demand.
The hardware store chain has quietly launched its own ‘dupe’ of Kmart’s $25 ‘genius’ LED Magical Lighting Wand – and it’s proven to be popular among shoppers.
The retailer, which has than 300 stores across Australia, has been struggling to keep up with stock levels after than 1,000 wands were sold since hitting shelves on October 23.
The wand lets you control your festive lights with a wave of your hand.
Just connect the included RF adaptor to your Christmas lights, and you can switch them on or off from up to 10 metres away, with every wave setting off twinkling lights and enchanting sound effects.
The little ‘magic’ gadget has been a best-seller, with shoppers scrambling to get their hands on one while others said they couldn’t get enough of it.

Last month, Kmart shopper Meisha Carson filmed herself demonstrating how the clever gadget works.

Waving the wand towards her beautifully decorated and light-covered Christmas tree, Meisha exclaimed that she simply waves the device to turn the lights on.

As demonstrated in Meisha’s video, a flick of the wand not only sees the tree light up, but also emits a delightful fairy tinkling sound effect. (Precisely the noise you’d imagine that a magic wand makes!)
