New Google Gemini Tool Makes Image Editing Easier Than Ever

–>Separately, Google has been quietly working on a handy image annotation toolwhile we’ve also discovered work on the ability to “circle” over images for edits and analysis. The latter is now rolling out to some user accounts across the globe (via Android Authority).
When available on your account, a small prompt will appear after adding an image to the conversation, whether via the camera or by using an existing image from the Gallery.
Tap the image you’ve attached, and a row of colors appears, allowing you to scribble or circle the area you want to make the changes.Sketchis chosen by default, and there’s also aTextoption that lets you describe the edit directly on the image. Gemini has also rolled out this markup tool to the chatbot’s desktop/web experience, with the same duo of tools on offer.
Make granular edits and other modifications to your images
In addition to refining or modifying your pictures, this tool can also help you identify people and objects by circling over them. However, Circle to Search can achieve a similar feat with fewer taps. Notably, Android Authority couldn’t get an accurate result in their demo trying to identify an individual, reminding us again that Gemini won’t get it right every time.
I’m seeing this feature rolled out with the Google app (version 16.49.59), including on a free Gemini account. If you’re on the same Google app version and still aren’t seeing it, try force-stopping the app and try again. If that fails, you may have to wait for a broader rollout.
We’re not seeing any official online documentation for this feature at the moment, which is understandable since Google appears to be testing it in a limited capacity.
While Gemini could already edit images before this markup tool, there was no way to pinpoint what you wanted to change or add to an image. But that’s finally changing now, making your photo edits that much easier to produce.
This markup functionality joins a suite of other image and video-related features crammed into Google Gemini, which has led to a significant surge in demand. As a result, Google recently had to slash usage limits for users on the free tier.
